DCEO Sponsors Energy Session for Public Housing Authorities

Chicago, Illinois - March 27, 2014

The Illinois Efficient Living PHA Program and The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) on March 27, 2014 conducted a roundtable event for Illinois public housing authorities to discuss the obstacles to obtaining private financing for affordable housing energy efficiency projects. The roundtable featured representatives of ten Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) from throughout the state. The meeting was facilitated by Kate Brown, Chair and Senior Housing Research Specialist at the University of Illinois Building Research Council and also attended by Antonio Riley, HUD Region V Administrator and David Baker, Manager of the State of Illinois Energy Division were also in attendance. PHAs in Illinois have a significant need for funding to replace old inefficient equipment, HVAC systems and lighting. The roundtable focused on identifying other private financial resources and also discussed the barriers in obtaining them. Private funding is needed to leverage sustainable building improvements and renewable energy projects.
